The Certifying Body: AICPA

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is the world’s largest member association representing the accounting profession, with more than 412,000 members in 144 countries. AICPA has an established history of protecting the public interest since 1887. Its members represent many areas of practice, including business and industry, public practice, government, education and consulting.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Requirements vary by state/jurisdiction

  • Most states now require 150 semester hours of completed college education
  • 19 states allow candidates to sit at 120 hours, but require 150 hours for certification.
  • Number of accounting hours (in the 150 total) is dependent on state requirements
